To practice comparing and contrasting stories, we've been reading many versions of classic fairy tales and seeing how author's change some parts of the plot and keep others the same. Last week we worked on the Three Little Pigs, and as a big finale, we performed reader's theatre versions of the story. Click on the videos below to view!

Second quarter was filled with lots of big events in second grade. We took our first field trip, we performed How the Penguins Saved Christmas, we had two great classroom parties, we *almost* met our class reading stamina goal, and we had lots of fun learning in between. We even completed our first engineering activities by creating a parachute for Santa and a stable shelf for the elf. Below are some snapshots of our exciting quarter in 2nd grade! On Friday, we met our reading stamina goal of 10 minutes, so we took advantage of the great weather, grabbed our book bins and headed outside. When we meet our next goal, 12 minutes, we'll take a trip outside again. There's nothing better than a shady spot and a good book. :)
Our first day in second grade was a blast! (And so busy that I forgot to take a lot of pictures!) Every student had a great day, and I can't wait to watch them grow as a class this year! Enjoy the few pictures that I did manage to take in all the craziness! Day one of Camp Learned-A-Lot was a huge success! Campers got to read to self by flashlight, spend time working on their bunks, work outside with sidewalk chalk for tapes, measure our playground, and participate in making the sound effects for our bear hunt! We also mapped out the family's adventures during We're Going on a Bear Hunt because every good camper needs a map of where they are going! We're all looking forward to nature walks and A Camping Spree with Mr. Magee tomorrow! Our animal unit has almost come to a close! We began practicing our speeches in the library this morning to prepare for our big presentation on Monday. Get ready for a fantastic wax museum, parents! Their speeches are sounding great!
Yesterday was Wacky Wednesday, and to celebrate, we all wore wacky socks. We read Fox in Socks (of course) and One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. We then matched up rhyming words to practice our phonics and began to learn about creating bar graphs from data using Goldfish Colors. It was a wonderfully wacky day in second grade!
