Last week we introduced Word Work into our reading centers as a part of the Daily 5 that we will use in our classroom throughout the year. The students are loving it so far and have worked the best at this rotation. Throughout the year, we will use lots of different Word Work activities to help students master sight words, phonics patterns, and common spelling patterns. The activities that we have learned so far are Spin and Write; Roll, Read, and Write; Fancy Fingers; Rainbow Write; Letter It!; Super Sentences; Letter Tiles; and Stamp It!. We practiced using important school words, including teachers' names and different core subject areas. The students have loved all of the activities so far and having so many options in our Word Work bank will help this rotation stay novel and interesting all year. Look at some of the pictures below to check out their work!
This week we will continue to practice our Read to Self, Read to Someone, and Word Work while introducing Work on Writing. Work on Writing allows students the opportunity to write what they are inspired to write or to choose from a prompt. It encourages writing stamina, which will be important in our core writing time this year. We will keep track of our writing stamina like we have been keeping track of our class independent reading stamina.
